A long time ago the artist set out to live a life of romance and adventure in order to gain the depth and experience he thought he needed to become the writer and actor he aspired to be. Drawing his inspiration from the likes of Mark Twain, Ambrose Bierce and John Steinbeck he
rejected his state sponsored education and fable based religious upbringing and lit out for the territories occupied by the outcasts ,outlaws, lowlifes, burnouts, criminally insane, addicted, afflicted and those basically unfit or unwilling to cope with a society the 60s' deemed irrelevant and immaterial.
The problem with this undertaking ,he found, was it was entirely too easy to go native and become that which you sought to study. 25 years of misadventures, lousy romances, poverty', dead end jobs and an advanced stage of alcoholism that found him knocking on death's door led him to change his ways and embrace art as his salvation and the conviction that the only things that have value are creating, procreating and recreating.
The artist at this point - while simultaneously experiencing the madness of detox and a ferocious mid life crisis - decided to become a reclusive artist and devote all his energy to overcome the shame and humiliation of squandering the promise of his youth by becoming a sculptor despite having no training or technical knowledge.
With a vigor he'd previously applied only to self destruction and anti social behaviour he toiled in obscurity until eventually landing a job at Dadonnas Studio, can award winning commercial studio specializing in the fabrication and installation of large works for the theme park and restaurant industry.
What you see on these pages is professionally executed fragments of the stories the artist wanted to write, roles he'd wanted to play, characters he may have met. The artist sees himself primarily as an entertainer and storyteller with no obligation to follow either fad or convention. With this work he hopes to someday be able to sit at the table of redemption where he'll regale strangers with his tales of faraway lands and the wisdom of the doomed he encountered there.
